Hibachi

Don’t just do dinner. Do Hibachi! Who doesn’t love a flaming onion volcano… well… kids under 3 are probably going to cry, but for the rest it’s a great experience. The danger involved is not only thrilling but will may also help your kids be more self-aware of their table manners and behavior. And know some cities offer on-site hibachi, so you can bring it to your next backyard party! For those in the Atlanta area, check out https://www.atlantahibachiathome.com/.

Spear Thrower

Make an Atlatl! …or buy one and throw a spear farther and faster just like how ancient people hunted.

Greased Watermelon

Lather up that big boy with margarine, shortening, or Vaseline and toss it in the pool (it floats). Teams compete to get the slippery sucker to their side of the pool. After the fun you’ve got two options: 1) eat it, or 2) have the kids put a few hundred rubber bands around it until it ruptures open in a goopy mess that might just lead to a food fight…

DADDIO TIP: Be sure the kids get any oil off them and throw on an extra cote of sunscreen before heading back into the sun.

Kickball Water Slide

Amp up the fun by putting a slip n’ slide between the bases!

Watch Ya Mouth

CHALLENGE YOUR COMMUNICATION SKILLS as teams tackle silly phrases while hampered by mouthpieces, tackling family friendly phrases.

Catch A Spider Web

Capture a web by sprinkling baby powder on it, then spray a sheet of black paper with hairspray. While it is still wet, gently make contact with the web and begin to pull slowly using a book or other stiff surface behind the paper. As you pull, have your child spray it generously with hairspray to bond it to the paper. Glue a Spiderman action figure to it and you’ve got a perfect show and tell item.

Surge!

Emulate the mayhem of the commercials from this 90’s era Mountain Dew-like drink. You put an object/prize at the end of an obstacle course or slip n’ slide, or behind a wall of dads acting like American Gladiators. When you shout Surrrrrrrge! all the kids scramble to be the first to grab the object.

Snipe Hunt

It’s all about walking around in the woods with the kids. Try to build up the anticipation and excitement. “Did you hear that?! I think that was a snipe!”. You might be wondering what a snipe is. Technically it’s a bird, but it can be anything your imagination can conjure. That’s the beauty of it. Make it a just scary enough to get the adrenaline going and let your kid’s bravery shine through. They’ll remember it forever.

Chuck E Cheese

Just putting this back on your radar. They still have the creepy robot rat and serve terrible pizza, but the games still have all the blinky lights kids love.

Party City

Need to kill some time? Drop by a Party City with the kids. It’s way cheaper than a toy store but will have the same effect. They’re happy with a new toy, you’re happy that you were able to buy love for only 6 bucks, and mom is happy that she got a bit of time to herself!

MAKE IT MEANINGFUL:

Empathy & Kindness: Ask them to to think of someone they would like to give a present to. Why did they choose that person (to cheer them up, because they like them, to say thank you…)? What would that person like? Why?

Value, Saving, Spending, Gifting: If I give you 10$, will you save it, spend it, or
