Fast Food Playground

Technically this isn’t a Dad-Kid thing, but it is something to keep in mind if you need to kill time. Buy a coffee and relax while your kids get the wiggles out.

Industry Tours

Like your own personal school field trip, you can book a tour with your local water treatment plant for your kids to learn what happens to their poop after they flush! Or… call ahead to a fire station, police station, FBI field office, vehicle assembly plant, or brewery and schedule a visit. Test Labs are another good option. Witness product flammability testing at UL labs in Northbrook IL, or see concrete get smashed at your local Department of Transportation lab. There’s always movie studio tours, and to round out the inspiration for your own field trip, consider scheduling a kitchen tour at Chick-fil-A, California Pizza Kitchen, or even Whole Foods. You’ll be surprised at how many places will open their doors to some inquisitive kids.

Cow Tipping

OK maybe not mom-approved and technically illegal but hey… what a thrill. And a good opportunity to bond with your teen and let them know that they can always bring their troubles to you.
