Whitewater Rafting
For kids as old as 8. Same goes for fishing float trips FYI.
DADDIO TIPs:
- Note there are two business models for rafting outfits: 1) Quality, 2) Quantity. Be weary of companies that cater mostly to youth groups, Scouts, and the like as they tend to rush down the river and miss all the fun spots to surf and swim. Instead, look for those that offer free bear after the trip as an indicator of catering to an elevated experience.
- Bring tip money, and negotiate the price of the photos they take on the river.
- Weather can make a big impact on enjoyment. Try not to lock in booking until you have a bead on if its going to rain.
- Consider backcountry camping in the area instead of on-site accommodations. Ask for recommendations and/or check out Outly.com.
MEANINGFUL CONVERSATIONS:
- Follow Your Guide: Recognition of each individuals strengths. The guide has studied the river and has experience here. Let us leverage his strength to get us downriver safely.
- Teamwork: When we don’t paddle together, when we don’t all pull our own weight, we get stuck on rocks.
- Accomplishment: After each rapid, give each other paddle high-fives! Each obstacle overcome is a victory. Reinforce that, and you will be strengthening their self-esteem, while fostering courage for the next challenge!
